“The 8th Connecticut camped here on Sept. 16, 1862, the night before the battle of Antietam. This was part of the Henry Rohrbach farm in 1862. At dawn on Sept. 17, 1862, Rebel artillery shelled the position, killing three 8th Connecticut soldiers and wounding several others.”
